New Book on TKD History

A new book has just been released called A Killing Art.  It covers the history of Tae Kwon Do respectfully, yet thoroughly.  It is written from a scholarly perspective first and foremost, and is extensively footnoted.  Much of the bias usually found in Martial Arts books is not present: Gillis shows an unflagging devotion to a truthful recounting of the history of the art he loves, and that includes some unsavory stories as well as heroic ones.  Of special interest is his work tracing the connections between Tae Kwon Do and Shotokan Karate, a lineage that has been actively covered up by many of the major players in the art’s history for political purposes.  Of all the martial arts history books I have read, this is my favorite.  You can find the book on Amazon.com for a significant discount.  It’s a great time to put it on your Christmas wish list!
